Recently I got asked, what was the most challenging part of onboarding a new project management tool?
Contrary to popular belief, technology is not the biggest problem. The success or failure to adopt the new PM tool depends on how the choice was made. Were users included in the selection process and broadly consulted? Or was it decided only by managers and budget holders?
There is no one tool that will meet the needs of all types of users and the reporting needs of management. However there are likely a few tools that will satisfy most use cases. If users were consulted and the selection process was transparent, the final choice, even if it doesn’t fully meet the needs of all users, will generally be widely adopted.
