According to Peter Drucker, “Time is the scarcest resource and unless it is managed, nothing else can be managed.” He didn’t say that time is easier to manage than budget or scope. Depending on the project, the most complex thing to manage could be the budget, the scope, the quality, or the people. However, you need to carve out time from your busy schedule to manage the most complex thing.
On the opposite end of scarcity is abundance. What does your project have in abundance? Is it an approved budget with a buffer? Then maybe you can move budget into the “Don’t Worry” quadrant. Plot scarcity-abundance against complexity to find out where you should spend most of your time on.
